The UW Campus Shorin-Ryu Karate & Kobudo Club was established in 1977. Classes & clinics were offered through the Department of Physical Education, Kinesiology & Extended Studies by Hall-of-Fame karate grandmaster, Soke Hausel.
From 1977 to 2007, this was one of the most successful martial arts programs on a campus in the US. The legacy continues at UW, but at a smaller scale. Prior to 2007, Soke Hausel typically trained 200 to 500 university-affiliated individuals per year.
